CHTHONIC Soon to Release First Novel!

From rockers to writers, CHTHONIC will soon release its first novel!

CHTHONIC has worked with the writer Vader Chiu—who once published the book CHTHONIC Dynasty—to published “Day 578 After the War”, a historical fantasy that blends stories from several of CHTHONIC’s albums that recounts how a young Taiwanese medium travels into the hell to take away the Book of Life and Death to save his friends and the sorrowful fate of Taiwan.

To advertise the novel, CHTHONIC shot a series of “Showa Taiwan and CHTHONIC” photos, with CHTHONIC members appearing in vintage pictures from the Showa period Taiwan (1930s to early 1940s) in collection of Formosa Vintage Museum Café. The set of Mokumentary photos have been posted on Formosa Vintage Museum Café’s official Facebook page. Although it was not mentioned, many Facebook users were able to discover CHTHONIC members in the photo, and circulate the photos on the Internet. The photos will also be in the book.

Although it’s the first time that CHTHONIC writes a novel, it has received endorsements from popular Taiwanese writers, such as Liu Li-erh, Ouyang Gin, Chang Tieh-chih, and Lee Ming-tsung. Taiwanese director Wei Te-sheng, who is known for his hit movies including Seediq Bale and Kano, commented that “you just can’t stop once you start reading this novel!” To reflect the true social atmosphere of the time, the dialogues in the novel have been written in Taiwanese.

“I’ve been practicing my Taiwanese by reading this book, I think I can now communicate better with my grandma,” said Doris, the leader of the band who doesn’t speak Taiwanese so fluently.

Day 578 After the War will be released by Taiwan Interminds Publishing Inc. on Oct 25, and the presale is available at www.CiongZo.com. Foreign language editions will be released next year.
