Volvo Ocean Race BBC Festival

The 2014/2015 Volvo Ocean Race's stopover festival in Abu Dhabi will be a stunning experience! The racing event that kick started in October in Spain, will see the race fleet moving from South Africa to China after a three-week stopover in the UAE capital in December 2014.

The stopover festival is hosted by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, and will take place in the Destination Village (VOR) on Corniche breakwater from December 12th until January 3rd 2015.

Highlighting the festival will be the two day concert - BBC World's Blue Planet in Concert. The concert will raise the curtain to the three-week stopover celebrations.

The concert will be held on the region's first ever floating stage under a 10 metre wide screen, showcasing spectacular, specially cut high definition footage from the award winning TV series - The Blue Planet, with the emotional and evocative musical score performed by a live orchestra.

The concert will talk about the Capital's union with the sea and its maritime heritage.
Adding more to the big news and something more exciting is that, being the opening act of the festival - the highly acclaimed BBC World's Blue Planet in Concert will feature the international superstar, the legendary music composer George Fenton, alongside a 78-piece National Symphony Orchestra and a regional narrator.

With the priemere of the famous concert in the region, it also marks the debut of the multiple-award winning music composer George Fenton. The international artist expresses his happiness -

"I've been lucky enough to perform the Blue Planet concert across the world in some of the most iconic venues from the Hollywood Bowl to Sydney Opera House, but the prospect of playing for the first time in Arabia, with a 78-piece orchestra on a floating stage beneath a ten metre screen, promises to be the show's most spectacular setting yet."

Janet Hassouneh, founder and executive director of the orchestra, who is equally excited about the concert says, This is an a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us and one which we are all excited about. Both the Volvo Ocean Race and Fenton are at the pinnacle of their world renowned areas of expertise, so it's nothing short of an honour to have their confidence in our ability. Make no mistake, each and every member of the orchestra will give of their very best and the audience will not be disappointed!

The stopover festival will showcase various performances such as dhow racing, traditional sea shanty or pearl diving.

There will also be ocean conservation exhibitions, and many educational and entertainment activities for every group and age. As George Fenton expressed, "the concert is going to be very special and a stunning way to experience the natural wonders of the oceans."
