Synthesizer? What is it Really?
If you have ever seen a Keyboard Synthesizer, you would have observed that it looks very much like the usual arranger keyboard or musical keyboard.
But then that is where the comparison actually ends. A Synthesizer is a far more superior musical instrument and is meant for the professional musician.
Though they look like keyboards and most of them have 61 keys, they include sound generating elements which can be used to create professional sounds and patterns. Synthesizers are much more expensive instruments and they give you the capability to manipulate various parameters of the built-in sounds.
Basically, it is used in studios for recording purposes.
Since they are professional instruments, they usually do not have built-in speakers. You are supposed to connect it to external speakers, also known as monitors to hear what you are playing. These instruments do not have built-in accompaniment patterns as well.
You will find that the sounds from synthesizers are used as sound effects in background scores and lot of keyboardists also use them in bands because of their stunning sounds and effects.
It is not that these are used only for techno sounds, these instruments contain many melody and percussion sounds as well. But then these instruments have huge fan following because of their ability to create completely new sounds from scratch.
You have the ability to program and save these sounds in the instrument itself for later use or you can even choose to play these sounds in real time. For that reason

A podcast is an easy way of distributing media files over the internet, and this article will tell how to make a podcast. The first thing necessary is a domain, and a host on which to store the media files for the podcast.
Getting a domain is simple and easy, there are many domain registrars that can register a domain for someone for a small fee. Some of these domainregistrars are GoDaddy.com, Dotster, or Network Solutions are some that provide domains.
The domainregistrar will, for a small fee, enter the chosen domain, provided it is not being used, into the computers that form the backbone of the internet. These computers will be told where the domain is located on the internet; what host it is that holds the domain's information. In order to give them that information, the name servers that are held by the host need to be associated with the domain.
Once the domain is in place, a good host should be found. The host that is chosen should offer a large amount of both disk space and a much larger amount bandwidth.
Disk space is neccessary because the site which holds the podcast will be storing large media files; audio or video files that take up a lot of space and are difficult to compress. The large bandwidth is necessary because transferring these large files many times to many different people will use up the quota quickly.
A good amount of diskspace would be several GigaBytes, bandwidth should be in the tens or hundreds of Gigabytes. Once the host is set up, it should offer you a couple of addresses called nameservers. Inputting these server addresses into the site where the domain was registered will complete the domain setup and allow the site to be found on the internet.
The next step for people who want to know how tomake a podcast is installing the software necessary to maintain the podcast. A small piece of coding called dircaster.php can be used to set up a basic level of podcast. Dircaster.php can be found easily by searching for it in any search engine.
Once it is located, it should be edited to reflect the particulars of the domain and uploaded to the site. Dircaster.php will generate an RSS file, or feed, that tells the subscriber about the new files available for downloading.
To begin podcasting, create the audio files that should be podcast, fill in the information about the file such as date, author, etc, and upload them to the same directory that contains dircaster.php. You now have a podcast, and all that is needed is to publicise the address of the file dircaster.php. To update the podcast with newinformation, just upload the new files. Other things to make the podcast better might be a site that contains information about the podcast, but it isn't necessary.

Experimental Rock or Avant-garde Rock
A type of music based on rock which experiments with the basic elements of the avant garde genre, or which pushes the boundaries of common music composition and performance technique. Some of the more common techniques in experimental music include:- Extended techniques: Any of a number of methods of performing with voice or a musical instrument that are unique, innovative, and sometimes regarded as improper.
- "Prepared" instruments—ordinary instruments modified in their tuning or sound-producing characteristics. For example, guitar strings can have a weight attached at a certain point, changing their harmonic characteristics (Keith Rowe is one musician to have experimented with such prepared guitar techniques). Cage's prepared piano was one of the first such instruments. A different form is not hanging objects on the strings, but divide the string in two with a third bridge and play the inverse side, causing resonating bell-like harmonic tones at the pick-up side.
- Unconventional guitar playing techniques—for example, strings on a piano can be manipulated directly instead of being played the orthodox, keyboard-based way (an innovation of Henry Cowell's known as "string piano"), a dozen or more piano keys may be depressed simultaneously with the forearm to produce a tone cluster (another technique popularized by Cowell), or the tuning pegs on a guitar can be rotated while a note sounds (called a "tuner glissando").
- Extended vocal techniques—any vocalized sounds that are not normally utiliized in classical or popular music, such as moaning, howling, vocal fry, overtone singing, screaming, death growls, or making a clicking noise. Artists such as Cathy Berberian, Roy Hart, Meredith Monk, Michael Vetter, and Björk. Berio's Sequenza III for female voice (1965) and Peter Maxwell Davies's Eight Songs for a Mad King (1969) utilize many of these techniques, along with other rock artists.
- Incorporation of instruments, tunings, rhythms or scales from non-Western music traditions.
- Use of sound noise sources other than conventional music instruments such as trash cans, telephone ringers, and doors slamming.
- Playing with deliberate disregard for the ordinary musical controls (pitch, duration, volume).
- Use of graphic notation, non-conventional written/graphic 'instructions' actively interpreted by the performer(s). This practice continued through composers/artists such as La Monte Young, George Brecht, George Crumb, Annea Lockwood, Yoko Ono, and Krzysztof Penderecki.
- Creating experimental musical instruments for enhancing the timbre of compositions and exploring new techniques or possibilities. Artists such as Harry Partch, Luigi Russolo, Bradford Reed, Iner Souster, Neptune, Hans Reichel.

Experimental guitarist Pim Zond briefly plays an original free improvisation (now called "Dead Ring"). Hand-built from non-music related parts this 5 string acoustic "moon guitar" or mandolin has a body ring of 22" in diameter, and a fretboard of 11 inches is currently the world's largest. It's design is inspired by his previous record set with the world's smallest mandolin. Both are based on Chinese designs of pipa and rupan, as well as abstract sculptural appointments.
